Choosing Your AI Toolkit

Pick your personal AI toolkit instead of chasing every new app.

You'll finish with
Personal 3-tool AI kit
~15 min 3 objectives

What you'll learn

  • Choose a personal 3-tool AI kit based on tasks, not hype.
  • Match each tool to the work it fits best.
  • Set a rule for how long to try a new tool before deciding.
Lesson

Why 3 is better than 30

There are hundreds of AI apps. Trying them all is a full-time job. A small, well-chosen toolkit gets you 90% of the benefit for a fraction of the effort. Three tools you actually know beat thirty tools you dabble with.

Three roles to fill

Most learners cover three main needs. Everyday writing and thinking (a general chat like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini). Research with sources (Perplexity or Gemini). Simple visuals (Canva AI or a similar design tool). Pick one option per role and stick with it for a month.

How to test a new tool fairly

Set a small deadline (30 minutes). Run three tasks you actually do. If two of the three feel faster or clearer, add it to your kit. If not, park it for later. Do not switch tools mid-task because a friend recommended a new one that morning.

Free vs paid

Most learners never need a paid plan to complete this course. If you do choose to pay for one tool later, choose the one you already use every day. Do not stack subscriptions you do not use.

Example — Colombia small seller

A small seller in Bogotá picks ChatGPT (daily writing), Perplexity (sourced research), and Canva (post visuals). She writes those three names on a sticky note next to her laptop and ignores every new tool for a month.

Prompt template

Toolkit-choice decision prompt

I want to choose a personal 3-tool AI kit for the next month.
My top 3 recurring tasks are:
1. [task]
2. [task]
3. [task]
My budget: [free / small / open].
My country: [country].
Suggest one tool per task, explain the trade-off in one line each, and warn me about anything that changes fast.
Practice task

Write your 3 top recurring tasks in a plain note. Choose one tool per task. Note why. Commit to using this kit for the next 3 weeks of the course.

Success checklist
  • You wrote down 3 tasks, not 10.
  • You picked one tool per task.
  • You noted a one-line reason for each choice.
  • You did not add a 4th tool 'just in case'.
Knowledge check

Self-check only. Nothing here is scored. Tap a question to reveal the answer.

Reflection

Which task in your week would benefit most from a tool you actually know deeply, instead of one you almost know?

Safety note

Tool availability, features, and free tiers change often. Assume the kit you choose today may need one substitution in a year, and revisit it deliberately rather than reactively.
