Learn to research with sources instead of trusting confident answers.
Research-focused AI is designed to search, quote, and cite sources for every claim. It is more transparent than a general chat, but it is not perfect. It can still choose weak sources or misread a source. Your job is to be the editor.
A primary source is the original: an official statistics office, the company's own website, the government notice, the study itself. A secondary source is someone talking about the primary source. Whenever possible, follow links back to the primary source before you trust a number or a quote.
Old is not always wrong, but old numbers may not reflect today. Look at the source date and note it. If a claim depends on a fast-moving topic (prices, rules, availability), a source from three years ago may already be outdated.
A short research summary is honest about uncertainty. 'The most recent official figure I could find is from 2023; anything newer would need to be checked' is more trustworthy than a confident-sounding wrong number.
A learner in Mauritius researches average mobile data plan prices. Perplexity returns three sources. Two are blog posts; one is an official regulator report. The learner uses the regulator's figure, notes its date, and lists the two blog posts as background only.
