Where Claude tends to shine

Claude was designed to handle long input and to follow careful instructions about tone and safety. In practice that means it is a good partner when you need to read a long document, summarize a report, or rewrite formal text without changing the meaning.

Reading a long document

Paste (or attach) the text, then ask for a specific summary: 'Summarize this in 5 bullet points a busy manager can read in 30 seconds.' You can also request 'What are the three risks in this document?' or 'List every date mentioned and what happens on it.'

Rewriting without changing meaning

The core rule is: do not add facts the original did not include. Say so in your prompt: 'Rewrite in simpler English. Do not invent facts. Keep every number and name unchanged.' Then compare the two versions line by line before you use the new one.

Structured output saves time

Ask for the shape you want: a table with two columns, a numbered list, or before/after pairs. Structure makes the reply easier to check and easier to reuse in a document or spreadsheet.

Example — Colombia community leader

A community leader in Medellín pastes a 4-page municipal notice into Claude and asks: 'Summarize this in 6 bullets in Spanish for a WhatsApp group. Keep dates and locations exact.' The reply is checked against the original before it is forwarded.
